UGA Fireplug
On October 12th 1968 the "world's largest fireplug" was presented to Uga II by the Chevrolet division of GM at the UGA vs. Ole Miss game. Initially, the fireplug was pulled onto the field by the cheerleaders at the start of the game as the Georgia team ran onto the field. Uga II would then emerge and take his place on the sidelines. The Fireplug would then be moved to the north sidelines where it would serve as a refuge from the heat for the mascot. A special ice filled pillow was placed inside for Uga to cool off during breaks from the game. Previously, the only refuge from the heat for Uga II and his father Uga I, was under the trainers table or under the hedges. The fireplug as a refuge
has been replaced by a custom built air-conditioned doghouse kept at a cool fifty degrees, but the tradition of wheeling Uga out never ends. A new lighter, more maneuverable fireplug was built in 2008.
